Static while listening to AM band on radio

Nissan, Quest, 2001, 78,000 miles
When the engine is on, the AM band has a lot of static. When engine is turned off, the stattic stops. This does not happen with FM. Any solution to this problem?

The noise is coming from the alternator. Go to Radio Shack and buy a good in line noise supressor for the alternator. That should fix the proble. Parts stores also sell them. Good Luck
