86 Nissan model 720 P/U - Z24 engine 267,000 miles on engine

I believe I have a stretched throttle cable from the gas pedal to the carburetor. There doesn't seem to be enough adjustment to fix it and it also seems to stick in its housing. This causes the engine to run at 1200 to 2000 rpm on idle. If I get under the dash and push on the excess cable sticking out from throttle pedal hole where the cable goes through, it slows down.
Is there an easy way to replace the cable without removing the carburetor and half the dash? I can't see where the cable end attaches to the throttle linkage at the carb end.
if I am overlooking a better solution, I would certainly be interested.

Have the same truck. The linkage connects to the front side of the throttle body. You might want to get a manual to check the proper way the replace it Haynes or Chilton both have a fairly good step by step instructions. Good luck.
