New distributor

I put on a new distributor and now my motor is a lot quieter is that normal or did I lose power some place?

Hi Toney,

I would not immediately think just because it is quieter that you lost power. My first thought would be that it is just running a lot smoother. I have noticed this on some older vehicles that when you replace the distributor and other ignition components that it is surprising how much more smooth it runs.

Not only is the ignition/spark potentially stronger but the distributor actually spins easier due to fresh bearings in it. I am not sure you have ever felt a distributor that was just worn out but they are pretty tight compared to the new one.

The definitive test would be if it drives like it is down on power. I would not rest on just the sound. Let me know if you need more info and I will be happy to assist. Thanks
