The overheated engine last Summer, I replaced the fans, thermostat and coolant reservoir. Shortly after a couple months the air conditioner started making noise and eventually stopped blowing cold air. I had it recharged. It worked for a few days then started making the screeching sound again. Replaced the air conditioner and dryer. It works at low temperature and low RPMs. But when the engine temperature gauge gets to mid-way it, or RPMs go up above 2,000 it screeches horrible sound. The heater works and I have bled the cooling system for air twice. Why does the air conditioner make that noise and stop blowing cold air? Is there some kind of sensor or control module that needs to be replaced that thinks the engine is too hot and shuts it off? I have heard these cards, the t-bird, Lincoln LS V8 and the jaguar xke tend to run hot. I can drive with no air on but it's. Black car and it gets hot in the sun. Help please?

Hi,

The A/C compressor places a heavy load on the engine. What you described sounds like the belt isn't tight enough and slips causing the sound.

Since both the A/C compressor and water pump are driven by the same belt, it could allow the engine to run hot if the pump isn't turning fast enough. It's a theory, but a possibility.

Have you checked the serpentine belt for tension and condition? Also, could you record the sound and upload it for me to hear?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

For some reason, the audio didn't come through to me. Could you reload it? Also, if the system is overcharged or too much pag oil was added, it could cause an added load on the compressor.

See if you could upload the sound it's making.

Take care,

joe

I tried to upload the file again from Google drive. If that doesn't work, I will have to go and do a live video with sound while on this page and upload. In mean time, could this screech sound be a warning to turn off A/C as engine is signaling it's too hot and if that is the case when gage says middle is there something sending a false warning? The A/C was making this same sound be for I had it changed out.

Hi,

No luck on the upload. The computer will turn the AC off if it suspects it is overheating. However, if the system is overcharged or has too much PAG oil in it, this can happen when it gets warm. Basically, the compressor becomes too hard to turn and the belt slips making the noise. If I could hear the noise, I should be able to tell. Also, I have one of the best AC people available to me here, so he should know as well.

When I sent the file to my work iPhone, I had to turn up the volume, on click up and the sound came on. Perhaps you may need to do the same? Otherwise, I will need to go out and uncover her get her started and up to temperature. It might take until the weekend, but I will get that noise uploaded, thanks.

I am trying to do it right from your app. Let's see if I try again. Also, I do notice a click sound 8n engine when it goes back to lower idle clicks back and forth every 30 seconds or so and I see a emo drop a little like a load coming on and off engine while A/C is still blowing cold now.

Hi,

The click is likely the compressor clutch engaging. Let me know if it continues to work properly.

Take care,

Joe

It's not working properly at all as it still makes the noise from the A/C when driving at rpms above 2.5k and especially as the engine gets hot then A/C stops blowing cold the noise gets worse, so I turn the A/C off as I am scared it's going to blow up. Have you read or heard much about an issue with a hydraulic cooling fan pump or the solenoid on the pump sticking? The T-Bird, Lincoln LS V8, and Jaguars kxe in 2002 had them and I think they went to electronic fan a year or two later. The pump is hard to find and expensive and seems you can't buy the solenoid by itself as it's discontinued.

Hi,

I've heard of them, but never had to work on one. I found a technical service bulletin related to overheating and the fan. I attached it below for your review. (Pics 1 and 2).

I took the updated part number and found a place that sells new old stock (nos) parts. Here is the link. Check it out to see if they can help. Note that the link is specific to the part.

Let me know if the codes indicated are present.

Let me know.
