Need to remove and replace 1.8 liter pontaic engine

My son blew a rod in this car it was knocking for awhile and he never got his car looked at he blew out the starter and we are replacing the engine can this engine be removed from the top or does it have to come out the bottom it is a 1.8 liter pomtaic engine

Normally they come out the bottom but you may have enough room to squeeze out the top, you may have t o remove some accessories to do it. Also disconnect torque converter and slide back in to trans if auto. If it's a manual it goes out the bottom. Make sure to keep the oil level full #1 cause of engine failures like that. Make sure to take pictures of everything so when you put it back together you don't screwup and hook stuff up wrong or damaged.
