Engine does not crank?

My car has not been able to be placed in park, so my father has been using the emergency brakes and leaving it in neutral. Two weeks ago, the brakes locked up and he had to replace all the brakes. But now the car won’t crank over, and he states it’s the starter. About a week before the brakes went out, my sister's friend looked under the hood and told me my battery was leaking acid. I’ve told my father, and he told me it was fine. But do you think that could be the reason why the car is not starting?

If the battery is leaking acid, it should be replaced no matter what. Keep in mind when they leak acid they can explode when removing the battery cables so please be careful. Here is a guide to help you. Wear gloves and safety goggles.

Also, once the battery has been replaced try starting the engine in neutral, this will help us see if the shifter cable or gear range sensor is at fault. Here is a video to go over which can help as well:
