I'm not sure if it is all due to one issue or if each sensor should be tested on its own and if so how to test them manually?

Hi,

These could be failed sensors but if you work through each one of these codes it could be a a wiring issue. so the easiest thing to do is test each sensor and make sure it is reading properly. Here is a guide to help with that:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/abs-wheel-speed-sensor-test

Keep in mind that you have two codes against your right front wheel speed sensor, one against the left front and one against the right rear. Nothing against the left rear so the most likely issue is 3 speed sensor issues. However, it is highly unlikely that they all fail at the same time, so a little back ground on the issue would help. Did you just buy this vehicle or did this happen all of a sudden? Just let me know the progression of this and we can go from there. Thanks

I bought the car in March of last year. When I bought it, I changed out the inner and outer tie rides for all the tires. The tie rods for the front driver tire were extremely worn down. The CV joint boot for the front driver side tire has to be changed out now though. But when I first got it in my procession, I had it for about 2 weeks and it started to act as if it was bogging down anytime going up hill upon acceleration. Then it stopped acting like that. I also thought the car had an exhaust leak, but it seems as though it "rumbles" under the front seats almost in the middle and has a sulfur/rotten eggs smell. Possible clogged catalytic converter? I had also replaced the EGR valve in July of last year. As of the middle of last month until now, it has almost been 1 thing after another. I got the first OBD2 code reading back in June, the first set of codes were, P0135, P0401, P0742, P0502, and P0741. Everything was still running okay though, I checked out the codes and meanings, but financially I wasn't able to do much a month ago. Last Thursday I had to drive about 50 mins out of town and the car ran perfectly, no rumbles or high rpm's, hardly any smells and it was shifting. I was there for about an hour and then proceeded to take the same route home. A little over half way back to town, all highway miles running about 65, the temp gauge bottoms out. I pull over and my friend was looking under the hood and felt the radiator cap and left his palm on it, it was mildly warm. Made it back home and parked for the night. I didn't try to drive the car until around 7 pm the following night and when I went to pull out of my drive way, and accelerate the rpm's would rev up, I don't have an rpm gauge on my dash and then once my speed hit about 30 it would shift to second gear, but not third gear. I pulled over because upon acceleration the car would do a hard jerk and it was squealing. I bought break cleaner and applied it to my serpentine belt but that wasn't the problem. I checked the transmission and the fluid was really deal brown, and smelled a little burnt it still had a reddish tent to it but no noticeable metal shavings. Bought Lucas transmission stop slip and drained as much fluid as possible and added the stop slip with new fluid. I also realized that the previous owner over filled the transmission fluid, no foam present. At the time, could afford to drop the pan and replace the filter and gasket as well. The slippage or hard shifting stopped for a little while and the squealing noise hasn't come back. My car still won't shift into third gear but almost seamlessly shifts between first and second and down shifts. Sometimes, putting a number on it, if I were to come to a complete stop and then accelerate, it would hesitate/slip and then accelerate, especially turning a corner either way. August 10th I got another OBD2 reading and got these codes, P0757, P0742, P0401, C1245, C1233, C1226, C1225, C1224, C1222, C1218, C1216 and B0041. These codes were read around 1 pm. They informed me that some of the codes were old codes, like they weren't ever cleared. So I had them clear the codes after I received a copy. I looked into the codes in my owners manual, I consulted a family backyard mechanic and he advised me to try adding some fuel system/combustion chamber cleaner and some Barr's stop slip transmission fluid. I bought the STP ultra fuel system cleaner and added half to my tank before putting gas in and it ran like a champ and accelerated with no hesitation or jerks, just still won't shift to 3rd even manually. I went back and got another OBD2 code reading and got all the same codes except and the B solenoid, P0757, and the Torque Converter clutch circuit stuck on, P0742. The rest of the above codes were still there. It was recommended that when I got home to disconnect the negative charge from the battery for about 10 mins to reset the PCM. I did that, reconnected it and then drained off 16 oz of transmission fluid and added to Barr stop slip transmission fluid and went for a drive. Everything ran good (except no shift to 3rd still), that I can tell. The rpm's still rev pretty high around 35-45 mph. Looking under the hood yesterday, I found my MAP sensor is broken, the top part of it, I haven't tested the circuit yet. Also my PCV Valve doesn't rattle and has a little transmission fluid around the o-ring. My fuel has been running on the richer side as well, also have a small oil leak that I cannot find. Thank you in advance, I'm sorry it's so much.

Wow. That is a lot. I would suggest with going through the wheel speed codes that I provided the info for earlier and then see how it shifts. However, it concerns me that you found metal. The speed sensor issues will cause shift issues however, I would not get my hopes up that all the issues will be resolved with fixing those.

As for the running rich, start with the PCV. This will cause an issue as you described and also the MAP sensor. After that, you will need to enter a post for each individual issue. Reason is, when others search for issues they may have what you are experiencing but they won't find it under a different topic. Thanks
