Need to move the vehicle but don’t have the key and the steering wheel is locked. We’ve figured out from your video how to put it in neutral without the key but now we need to unlock steering.

Unfortunately you cannot unlock the steering without disconnecting the steering shaft. So I would suggest using a floor jack or individual wheel dollies and lifting the front tires and you can move the vehicle around. Hopefully it is on pretty level ground and pavement. If not, you are going to have to get a key that can turn the ignition cylinder which will unlock the wheel.

Let us know if you have questions on this. Thanks

We need to move it a bit of a distance so we actually need to know what to do inside the steering column. is there a pin we can pull or something that will unlock the wheel?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Unfortunately, no nothing simple like that can be done. The actual steering wheel lock mechanism is located in the steering column and will keep the steering wheel locked without having the key.As my co-workers prior post you can disconnect the steering column at the steering box under the hood.If you do that the steering wheel will remain locked but with effort you would be able to turn the front wheels to steer or move onto a tow truck or tow dolly. With that considered be sure to have the shifter linkage disconnected so you can manually put the transmission in neutral to tow.Not sure if yours is all wheel drive -4x4 or just a 2 wheel drive but dragging a car around in park can really ruin the drive-train. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.
