I have a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse. Manual 2.0 Liter. My car is making loud popping noises. The higher the RPMs the louder and faster the noise gets. It goes away when the clutch is engaged. I was told it sounded like I threw a rod? Or maybe a lifter? If I did throw a rod then do I need to replace my whole engine? Please help me! 140,000 miles but new engine was repleced with 70,000 about 20,000 since then.

Is it making a popping sound or a knocking sound? A rod would make a knocking sound, a lifter sounds like a tapping sound, a popping sound from tuiming or octane. With it going away when you push on the clutch, I would try to pinpoint where the sound is comming from. If you threw a rod, you have the option of having the engine rebuilt or getting another one. There is a good cost diference between rebuilding or buying anothe engine.
