Can you tell me what is likely to be wrong with my car - on start up it blows out a small amount of oil with what I think is water? I have read through other peoples questions with oil related issues and often seems to point to the head gasket? Is this the case with me?

Do you see any blue smoke? The black color and water are normal, black is carbon and the water is condesation. Let me know about the smoke!

Hi there, thanks for replying so fast! There does appear to be smoke it varies between white and dark and it really smells strong - strong fumes. I warmed up the car for about 5 minutes before driving this morning and only took for a five minute drive. Engine temp guage had got up to half way but on return to home was still spitting out the watery black stuff and still a small amount of smoke.

You may have ahead gasket problem, have the engine block tested. Or buy the test kit, it costs 50.00 dollars, this will tell you if there are hydrocarbons in the antifreeze.
