The vehicle listed above is a Limited Edition, when I start the car, the light is not blinking however, as I drive at least 20 miles on the highway the light starts to blink (Center diff. Lock light) there is no noise, and the truck seems to be driving fine but the light continues to blink. I did stop and turn off the engine for a few minutes to restart with no blinking light but again as I drove about 20 miles the light started to blink again.
What could be the problem and what do I need to do to fix it? Also, should I be worried?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MIne was doing the same thing, and then I was turning a corner and a loud pop was heard. Now it doesn't have 1, 2, or 3 in all wheel drive, but has reverse. All gears operate in 4wd.

Center differential lock light flashes with no noises and after turning the 2001 Montero off and back on the light stops. I figured a relay was breaking down but I'm not sure about it. What do I need to replace to stop it?

We need to start with a couple of things first. First, we need to know if you have any performance issues? Does the vehicle drive properly with no noises even when the light is flashing?

Also, we need to check for codes. I suspect you are correct that we have an electrical related issue since it stops after shutting the vehicle off but let's start with any codes because that will cut down the testing that we need to do.

However, if there are performance issues then this could change things, but we still need to start with codes.

Let us know and we can go from there.

Thanks
