I can start my car and put it in gear but the car wont go. All the gears doesnt work. So does that mean that my transmission is broken or is it something esle. Is it the transmisson or is it the transmission plate that is broken? I also have another question. My galant is yr 99 but the transmission isnt and I dont know what yr the transmission is? The transmission on my galant right now is a different yr I think and the starter is on top or the transmission instead of on the bottom like every other yr 99 mitsubushi galant

Hi phongmoua,

The transmission with starter on top is for earlier models and is not a problem.

Symptoms indicates a likely bad torque converter. Have seen many of these fails.

Most likely you do not need a complete transmission. After removal of the transmission, take the torque converter out and drain away the fluid from inside. Look at the internals and if the splines are worn off, replacing the torque converter should do the job.

There are many trans that are compatible but gear ratio and life span would be another thing. Check out the transmission code and look for one that is similar and you should be good if replacement is required.
