My car cut off on me when I pulled up to a stop sign and would not restart. I had power because all dashboard lights are on. The alternator has been tested and it is ok. Also 2 weeks before that the car cut off on me but cut back on the battery indicator light was on. Could it be the starter? Would that cause the car to cut off?

Won't start

Do you mean it doesn't crank over or it cranks over and refuses to start-

Have a helper crank over the engine while you look at the engine where the drive belts are-do you see the pulley on the bottom of the engine turning-if not the starter might not be engaging the engine.

I did what you asked and it moved but very jerky. And it sound like I heard some kind of grinding. Well if it is the starter would it cause the car to just cut off while driving when I come to a stop

The only thing the starter does, is crank the engine over when the engine fires up that's the end of it. It'll not cause to stall, make the engine run sloppy or what.

You need to confirm that the starter is turning over the engine-if its jerky could mean the starter overrunning clutch is slipping.

My starter was taken off and tested and is working properly, Also I found out that my oil sending unit lead had broken off could this have caused the problem. What are my other options?

How can you tell if your motor is blown or a bad cam. The engine will turn over but very very slowly like it is grinding
