2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse trouble with putting in gas

I have trouble putting gas in my car. When I open the gas cap there isnt a flapper and when I insert the nozzle and start to pump gas in it clicks off. So I have to stand there and keep clicking the gas in so it takes me like 20 min to click in $10 in gas. Really big pain in the butt. It just seems like it dont want to take it or like it is full and clicks off. If anyone knows what this could be please let me know. Also my huspand has checked all the vacum lines and they seem fine. Thanks
