Does this car have fuel injectors? I am afraid I have messed it up by letting it run out of gas & trying to start it after putting a gallon in. Also have had troubles in past with Battery & having to jump it to get started & being that the hazards were on while I went to get gas it could now have dead battery as well. However, lights & radio still come on. I tried cranking it & all seemed to get weeker each time, once did not even sound like it was going to turn over. Then (the last attempt) it did at least make cranking sound but still did not start. It was late at night, raining very hard & I had my daughter in car with me.I did not want anyone messing with us so I couldn't really stick around to look under the hood & all.
It does leak oil & probably needed some when all this happened, I know for a fact that I was almost out of gas. I have also had battery problems before & have to ocasionaly start with a jump.

Hi there,

you should not have done any damage to your fuel system, but it is not a good idea to let it run so low on fuel, as the pump can over heat and fail. You should have the fuel filter changed as well as all the muck in the bottom of the tank has been stirred up. Have the battery load tested as this is the best method of checking a battery condition and also get the charge rate tested.
