I just recently replaced my battery with a Red Top, Optima. I installed a 12'' 2400 watt sub, my amp is only giving the subwoofer between 400-700 RMS watts. I installed the remote wire correctly in the headunit but everytime i go to start the car it seems as if the amp drained the battery. Now that i disconnected my system its still having problems, could this be the alternator? if it is for this system wat amp rating should i get on an alternator? is a 90 amp good? sry for the long question!!!!!

Hi fallen34685,

With so much power usage, the normal 70 or 75 amp alternater sure is not going to be enough. 90 amp should do the job nicely.

Without the system you should not be having any problem unless there is some other components draining the battery or the alternator is not charging enough. It could also be due to poor battery terminal contacts.

Check battery voltage before starting to see if it is ok and test the charging rate.
