1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse gas tank

I just got my 94 eclipse back it has been sitting for probably 4 years so I knew there would be old gas in it but I had to drive it from north carolina to south carolina I got half way home and it started to bog down when I pressed the gas too hard and I had to stop get out and shake the car for it to stop well it would stop for about 20 mins then it would do it again then it started to finally get to the bad gas when I got home and now im cleaning out the gas tank I asked my grandpa about it and he told me to do a tune up and clean the gas tank out it should help what I was wondering is what is the best way to clean out the gas tank I found a plug on the gas tank and used it to empty some of it out.
