So I replaced the timing belt and water pump on my 3000GT. It was a new water pump to. But now for some reason the water pump is making a winding or whisleing noise. It only happens when the car is warm and been driven for 10-15 mins. The water pump is working and keeping my car at the correct running temp at all times its just making this sound when the rpms drop. When I press the gas it wont make this sound, only when the rpms are droping. I ve tried everything I can think of. Im just looking for any answer short of having to take off the water pump and timing belt again.

Hi Dylan1,

Thank you for the donation.

Did you confirm that the nosise is definitely from the water pump?
Was the timing belt tension adjusted correctly?
Did you remove the external beltings to confirm if noise is still present?

My car wasnt making the sound before I did the timing belt and water pump. It started after I installed the new water pump and I did not change or adjust anything else. And I know the timing is correct. All the cam gears are right and I replaced the tenisioner and ideler. And when Im under the hood when it makes the sound I can hear it coming from the water pump. Or at least I think thats where its coming from.

Water pumps seldom emits the type of noise described. It could be the external drivebelts or something brushing against rotation parts.

To test if it is accessory drivebelts, when noise occurs, splash some water onto the drive belts and fif noise goes away, it can be confirmed the noise is emitted by te=hem. Recheck the drive belts adjustment. Multi ribbed belts needs a higher tension than normal V belts.
