Mistaken drained pint of Transmission fluid?

Went to change oil and mistakenly drained out approximately 1/2 pint, but no more than a pint of transmission fluid. No dipstick fill tube on this engine. Is this an immediate concern or would it be okay until 30,000 mile service?

Hi,

This vehicle has a CVT transmission. I would recommend having the level checked and filling it as needed. The fluid is circulated by an electric pump. Chances are if it is a 1/2 pint that was lost, you would be okay. However, I wouldn't chance it. It may void the manufacturer's warranty.

If you know if the transmission is a TR580 or a TR690, let me know and I can get the directions for checking the level. If you do plan to add fluid, make certain it is the correct CVT type fluid the manufacturer recommends. I attached the fluid information for both transmission options below.

Joe, thank you sir your response. I have the TR580, I have ordered a quart of Genuine Subaru Certified CVTF-III fluid and have it in coming in the mail. I have found an overload of mixed information on the net, so I would indeed appreciate the directions for checking an adding fluid, as well as verifying the proper fill plug, as I have discovered there are several. Thank you very much. BP

Hi,

I attached the directions for refilling the transmission. You will simply be topping off.

The directions indicate checking line pressure as well as transmission temperature. If you have an infrared thermometer, scan the transmission pan for temp. That will get you close enough. You know approximately how much came out, so you should be fine.

Pic 2 below shows the fill plug. Note it is next to the shift linkage.
