I have a 2002 MINI Cooper S, John Cooper Works with 97,000 miles. Lately, I get a miss when I am accelerating up from low RPMs (up to 3,000). The heavier the load on the engine (i.E. Uphill, passengers) and the harder I push it the worse the miss is. This condition seems to be even worse when the engine is not up to temperature. I have also noticed a lot of 'soot' coming out of the tailpipe, as it accumulates on the boot.

Has it been a while since a tune-up? Sounds like a spark plug breaking down. If you have a bad spark plug or wire, they usually show up while under a load and may run fine at idle or at a steady cruise speed.
