Engine Mechanical problem
1977 MGB 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 130k miles

'76 MGB with '80 engine sheared the "harmonic balance" (thin rubber disk between the main pulley and shaft). Can't find a replacement part in any catalogue or in any diagram. Is there a replacement part, or otherwise, how to repair?

Hi there,

You should be able to get a complete balancer on line from a MG parts supplier, make sure that you replace the seal as well.

The problem still is not being able to find the replacement part in any catalogue or on line.

Was told it's not available as a "replacement" part, so would have to either get a junkyard part or make one by vulcanizing raw rubber between the shaft and pulley.

Has anyone ever done this or used form-a-gasket with equivalent hardness and shear strength in the gap after cleaning & balancing?

If you are still looking for the balancer, go to university motors ltd. Com. The guy that owns it si john twist. He just reopened his shop this year again. He is world renowned on MG's and has parts that hesells at a very fair price. He even has a call in number everyday from 1-2p.M. Est. His phonenumber is on the website.
