I have 165000 milea on a 1996 mercury villager. My mechanic told me over the phone to change the timing belt right away if it has a nissan engine. If it is a ford engine don't worry too much. I can't find any Nissan engine Id. Will the vehicle id tell you whether it is a nissan quest or a ford product? Also I bought it used 50000 miles ago and the other owner may have changed belt, but I was going to do it to be safe. What do you think?

Hi kennyk27,

Thank you for the donation.

From data available, this vehicle is only equipped with a Nissan engine as it is a rebadged Nissan Quest.

Replacement of timing belt is recommended at 105k miles.

The belt should have been changed at least once but it is better to have them checked as we do not know when the belt was replaced.
