1996 Mercury Villager engine dies intermittently

Hello, I took my car to several mechanic and doesnot know what's wrong with it. Some says maybe the fuel pump, others said, maybe the radiator. Anyway, here is the problem. I noticed that this problem happens when its too hot. My engine would stop and I cannot restart. It stalled me several times that I have to wait til the engine cools off and then I would be able to start again. What do you think the problem? If I remember correctly, I was told that this car has a feature that the engine would shut off to protect it from overheating which would cause more damage. Please help>>>> can't afford to buy a new one. I would appreaciate everything.
