1992 Mercury Topaz stock radio removal

I was wondering how do you take out the stock radio. Do I have to take almost the whole dash off

No you don't have to take the whole dash off. You do need a special tool that you insert into the two holes on either side of the radio. You do that then pull it out. That simple.
