1989 Mercury Topaz boging down and stalling

My alt wires melted so I replace them every thing was fine the car was at idle and staled out. I started it back up and it was bogging down had to floor it just to keep it running it cleared up and it tac up to 6 let off gas bogged down and stalled. Would not start up nexted morning started up drove to work it was fine about 24miles. End of the day drove home got about 20 miles started to bog out and stalled out. 10 min later it started ran fine made it about 5 miles started up again down shifter to first got the idle up made it home and staled as soon as I parked and would not start. Today is started up went to local store and it was fine but it didnt really run that long what could that be I think it only does it after running to long temp is normal. Can you help me get me in the right direction thanks john

Have you checked fuel pump pressure? You would have to do it when the car is having the problem. Here is a how to for checking:

Hello, The problem could be several things but this is what comes to mind for this problem. I would check the catalytic converter, rap on it to see if you hear loose particles inside. If you hear loose particles the cat is bad and needs to be replacement. If you hear nothing check the flow of exhaust gas coming from the tailpipe once you start it. It should come out in pluses, if not have the cat checked. Next I would look at the fuel pressure when the engine malfunctions to check for pressure differential. If the fuel pressure drops the fuel pump could be failing. Please inspect and get back to us. Thanks for Using 2Carpros. Com
