1987 Mercury Topaz Car will on start when boosted

I replaced the battery and the starter relay. When the key is placed in the iginition. No power. When I hook the boost battery pak, the car will start and run. As soon as I disconnect the boost battery pak, the car runs rough. I hook the boost battery back up and the car runs fine. The car will only run when the battery pak is hooked up. What should I check.

Hello,

Check all battery connections at battery. Starter and ground at engine block. Remove all connections if not sure then make sure all are clean and tight.

You should also have the battery checked and also your charging system. It is possible that you may have gotten a bad battery right off the shelf, it doesn't happen often but it does happen.
