2003 Mercury Sable could this be gas tank float?

2003 Mercury Sable Automatic 109000 miles

i just bought this car and the other day I was driving and for some reason it would not let me push the gas pedal. The speedometer was just dropping.I pulled over and turn off my car. And it would not start. So I got towed and put gas in and all of a sudden it started. Its not like I ran out of gas.I had a half of a tank and when I put 10 dollars in gas I then had almost a fun tank. Im clueless of what this could be?
help please!

It is very possible that you have a bad fuel sender
drive it around and check when at  if it does it again just be prepare this time for it
if not check fuel pressure and do a spark test
