Electrical problem
1999 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Automatic 132000 miles

Recently, my automatic locks have been failing on me one at a time. My left-side autmatics stopped working with the switch. Then, one more door on the right side stopped working with the switch. The locks seem to want to go up but they never seem to unlock or lock back. I was wondering what the problem could be and estimate of the cost of fixing.

Do you have a remote that unlocks? Does it work with the remote? If you don't have a remote it may be the master switch assembly. If you have a remote and it doesn't work, it may be a wiring issue or the lock actuators could just be bad. If you could post as to whether or not you have a key fob, we can try to narrow it down a little.

If you can hear and see them trying to move, then you will have to replace the lock actuators. If they don't move, or you can't hear them trying to move, then you will have to trace the wires to the short.
