1999 Mercury Sable

My car needs a new alternator put on the old one has already been removed. I was told that the front axle has to be removed to put the new one on. I'm wondering if that is true.

GENERATOR
Removal & Installation (3.0L 2-Valve)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect wiring from generator. Loosen generator pivot bolt and remove mounting brace bolt. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove nut and 2 small bolts, and remove generator brace. Remove generator pivot bolt and remove generator from vehicle

Removal & Installation (3.0L 4-Valve)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove nut and position engine control sensor and hose bracket to one side. Remove inboard upper generator bolt. Loosen outboard upper generator bolt. Remove accessory drive belt. Disconnect wiring from generator. Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove right front wheel and splash shield. Remove outboard upper generator bolt. Remove lower generator bolt and remove generator
to get the alternator out, you need to drop the sub-frame passenger side. Tie rod end removal for easier acess to the alternator

Removal & Installation (3.4L)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove right side cowl vent screen. Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove right front wheel. Using suitable tie rod end separator tool, separate right outer tie rod end from steering knuckle. Remove accessory drive belt. Disconnect wiring from generator. Remove nut and position engine control sensor wiring harness to one side. Remove 3 generator mounting bolts and remove generator from vehicle
