1996 Mercury Sable Makes no sense!

1996 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Automatic 160000 miles

My question is. My girlfriend was driving my previously stated car (96 merc sable) home from work when she came to a red light. She obviously stopped (no problems at this point), but when the light changed green she applied the gas but the car wouldn't move? Any idea what could be the problems?

There is a Tech bulletin on your car for this TSB#98-3-7 Issued on 02/16/1998
Transaxle AX4N intermittent neutral condition, no forward or reverse movement-
Vehicles built through 2/1/1998. It's due to the bonded seal on the forward
clutch piston intermittently not sealing during a 3-2 downshift.
Remedy: Replace the forward clutch piston with revised part(F8DZ-&A262-AB).
Try argueing with Mercury for a repair.
