Car has a rebuilt transmission at around 85,000 miles. Last summer the transmission shift pin broke while driving it on a trip. Car would not shift into gear and luckily it was a broken shift pin. Been almost a year and it appears that the pin broke again. Will only shift into reverse. What could be breaking these pins? Or is something else going bad on the transmission to cause this?

Are you referring to the roll pins inside the transmission? If so, I can only suggest that the replacement pin was not of the proper hardness and/or temper. If something was binding inside the transmission, you would have long since noticed it in shifting.
