1995 Mercury Mystique cool

I recently changed the thermastat and the housing for the thermastat. After doing this the engine is running hotter than it ever did befor. Could this be dangerouse? Why would this be happening?

Make sure you put in the proper thermostat, and that it is facing the proper way.
