1997 Mercury Mountaineer Tie Rod Seperation

My tie rod seperated from it's knob. How do I replace this "unit" ?

You will need to unbolt the other side of the tie rod seperate the entire broken part, and replace it with a new one. Make sure the lock nuts are tight and you replace the cotter pin. Also, chances are if you didn't make it the same exact length as the old one when replacing it, you will also need an alignment. I recomend one regardless.
