Steering problem
2005 Mercury Marquis 53,400 miles

My rack and pinion is beginning to leak. I don't believe my car is under warrenty (basic) to cover this repair. Is it okay to use a stop leak in the power steering pump? Would it work or should I get the R&P replaced? (Repair place quoted me $825.00)

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation

This question is often asked, my answer to you is the same to everyone with oil leak problems, the use of stop leak additives may slow the leak bit it is not and can never be a permanent repair, your oil leak is due to a failed seal, worn seal surface or a high pressure leak, what these "fixes" do is swell the seal using a petro chemical additive the seal will take up for a while but the seal material is deformed and often become softer as well, failure again is only a matter of time, do the repair correctly as this will save you money in the long term.
