This has been a problem for about 8 months, has sat in the yard about 6 months.
reliable, usually very knowledgeable mechanics have service vehicle and cant find the problem. Most noticeable at highway speeds. Front has been aligned, wheels are tight, ball joints are tight, tie rods tight, no bearing play. Vehicle wanders and floats then will jerk to either side and now pops? I need to know what is the probable fix?

Your problem sounds like bad "Power Steering Assist".
It is commonly overlooked by many mechanics.
At highway speeds your steering should become firm; using virtually no power steering at all. When these units malfunction, your front end may seem as if it is literally falling apart; especially over bumpy roads. Additionally; you should also look into a faulty steering wheel sensor, speed sensor, or a faulty computer.
