I just bought my first car a '94 Mercury Cougar XR7 and it ran fine when I bought it. Then when I drove it home it was acting like it wanted to die and I thought it was out of gas and I just barely made it home, it quit in my drive way. Then the next day I tried it again and it turned on ( 4.6 L, V8, 79,000 miles) but the spedometer would go to 120 mph and if I wait a minute or press the brake or shift it will stall. The odometer also turns when the spedometer is up to 120 and before it stalls it goes back down to 0. I am suspecting a sensor is bad but I really don't have a clue what one. I could really use help I haven't even been able to drive my first car. :(
Thank You so much,
Shells

No but now its not doing that but the gas is leaking all over and I guess something is going on with the oil and gas mixing or something to that affect? Do you think it's a gonner?

I think if you just bought it take it back and get your money back!

Thank you but I don't think that is an option. I think the guy that sold it to me knew all of this was wrong and lied to my face. And the lemon law won't help me either. I am pretty much screwed. Do you suggest anything that we could fix to maybe salvage my car?
Thank you so much.

OK try this one, on the fuel rail there is a part with a vacuum hose on it it's call a fuel regulator, try replacing it. When you pull the vacuum hose off see if there is any gas in it. If so it is gone!
