2001 Mercury Cougar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My check engine light came on and I got a diagnostic test done at autozone and it said its oxygen sensor bank 1, sensor 2 and I can't seem to find it. Code P0136

The oxygen sensors are located underneath vehicle, attached to exhaust system. Bank 1 refers to the side of the engine with the number 1 cylinder. Follow the exhaust down from that side to find the correct O2 sensor. Sensor 2 refers to the sensor downstream of the catalytic converter.

How would I go about getting at the sensor. It's between the engine and the firewall and I can't seem to get a wrench in there to take the old one out and put the new one in.

You may have to remove other components if you have no other way to access it. Try removing the simplest things first such as components only held on by a couple of bolts.
