Noises problem
1999 Mercury Cougar 6 cyl Automatic 151000 miles
When I drive over a bump or any non smooth surface the back end of my car rattles but on a nice flat surface it is a very smooth car.

Check the rear of your exhaust system. Sometimes the rubber bushings that encircle the hangers falls out or cracks. This will cause your exhaust pipes/muffler to shake side to side and possibly bump up against something.
Also, check the black plastic of your inner wheel wells. Sometimes these get bent/cracked/deformed and will also shake and rub up against something when you hit a bump.
