1985 Mercury Cougar - 50k - CRITICAL TRANS. QUESTION. HELP!

The car suddenly no longer shifts up to 3rd gear.
WHY?
Any suggestions? IS it a vacuum issue or what?
What makes this car shift? Vacuum or electronics?
Fluid level too high? Can that do it? Too low?
Is it just shot? I NEED SOMEONES INPUT. PLEASE!

Most transmissions now shift electronicly, Vacuum modulation has been gone a long time, that said you can look yourself for a vac line on the side of the tranny. Have you taken it to a tranny shop? It may need an adjustment.
