2004 E-320 makes a sound from engine comp. Upon unlocking

My 2004 e-320 with 57K miles makes a sound when the doors are unlocked after sitting for a while. It sounds like a small compressor filling with air. It also seems to make the sound when the brakes are applied from time-to-time.

Any ideas?

This is your SBC (sensitronic brake control) system. Your vehicle uses a Hydraulic pump instead of a traditional brake booster. The system depressurizes after sitting for a while and when the vehicle is unlocked it is repressurized immediately so when you get in the vehicle you have pressure in the braking system.
