I have a 2000 Mercedes ML430 SUV. The rear seat is stuck in the forward and down position. The release cable has pulled away form the lever that releases the bar that allows it to pull up and slide back to the upright position. I can not get my hand or a tool under the seat to push ans release it manually. What can I do short of taking ot in for service?

The release cable pulling away is an indication of a broken or kinked cable. It is possible to release the seat but removal of the seat back cover will be necessary. Remove the screws holding the cover on. You should now have access to the cable. It may be difficult to release still but using a set of vise grips will help with holding the cable. Pull and this should release the seat.
