1999 Other Mercedes Benz Models engine uses too much force t

My 1999 mercedes E430 turned on the check engine light after i accelerated and the ESP exclamation point came on. Now the car uses too much power to accelarate and the engine feels like it's shaking while in a stopped position. Is there anything wrong with the engine?
