1987 Other Mercedes Benz Models My mercedes died out nowhere

My Dad was driving down the highway and out of nowhere the Mercedes 300D died as if it ran out of diesel but there was still a half a tank of diesel fuel in the car. The car will not restart at all. It had to be towed back to his house. It has new fuel filters and the fuel pump is working fine. Could you please tell me what is wrong with the car? Thank you, Emily

Re bleed the fuel system as these 300D's can suck air at the lift pump, if it is not firm to pump or diesel spills from side of primer, replace it. Bleed at injectors and if there is good fuel supply at injectors check compressions. Start there.
