2003 Mercedes Benz ML350 timing chain

My 2003 ML 350
with 62,000 miles stopped. I had it towed to the dealership.
They said the timing chain broke and did major engine damage

How could this happen with only 62,000 miles and regular service done at the dealership.

This is very unusual at this mileage. You rarely see broken timing chains on MB vehicles however this particular motor has been known to have issues with manufacturing quality as it was crossed developed with Chrysler. I have seen issues with the chain tensioner which in this case may be a cause for the broken timing chain. This will be replaced during this repair as it cannot be reused.
