I have a 1997 E320 which sat for some time and the battery drained. Remote would not unlock car, I had to enter the car using the front passenger door lock which set off the alarm. I disconnected and fully charged battery (battery load tested good). I've replaced the battery in the remote. Now the remote will not re sync to car. When remote is pressed lights on rear view mirror go from red to green but doors will not unlock and will not disarm alarm. When using key in passenger lock only that door will unlock. PSE does run and locks operate when using central locking button on console. I've tried the re sync procedure (press remote 2X then place in ignition and start vehicle) many times, checked all fuses under rear seat and hood, but still it won't re-sync.

From what I understand there are several ways to reprogram depending on style.

I have looked in Autodata and there are 3 different types of key which have different methods of programing.

Type 1 Point keyfob at reciever in door press lock/unlock button once and within 30 seconds lock the car with the key, passenger door or boot lock.

Type 2 point keyfob at receiver in door and press lock/unlock button once within 30 seconds turn ignition to postion 2.

Type 3 as above except press lock/unlock button twice then within 30 seconds switch ignition to position 2.

To check remote batteries etc look at the end that you point at car press and hold lock/unlock button for about 5 seconds when you should see a led light in the end through the red lense.

One more possible way.
To resync try locking & unlocking while pressing the button then remove & point at inside rear view mirror & press again
