Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Mercedes Benz CLK320 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 180000 miles

My Check Engine light came on, I ran a scan and got a 0400 EGR Malfunction code. I have located what I think are the EGR valves (there are 2). Can they be removed, cleaned and replaced as opposed to replacing?

I have never tried to clean them, but you can try some carburator cleaner to see if it helps. EGR valves usually just stop working properly rather than becoming clogged.

You are dead on cleaning is the way to go. Make sure you clean prots in the intake. And check vacuum to valves the RPMS up at 2000
