To Dave H, "Certified ASE Tech" you did not answer my question and incase you did not know, the Mercedes Benz manual DOES say to remove the V-belt pulley to replace the water pump. Hoped for a garage "trick" to avoid the $320 MB tools to lock the crankshaft in position. Your answer to remove the pump bolts was an insult. Hope U didn't study too hard for that 1. It is a beautiful car. Well respected. U waste of time. If I opened a Cracker Jacks box - maybe I could be a "Certified ASE Tech" like U.

Hello and thanks for donating

We do appreciate your question and thank you for using 2CarPros. Com. However, there is no need for such remarks towards our technicians that are on here helping people 24/7. If you have feedback towards a certain tech please leave it appropriately using the feedback system.

In the meantime, you will need the holding strap/tool for this job, otherwise you will risk throwing off the timing which just complicates the repair even more. You might be able to rent the tool instead of purchasing it. They usually require a deposit amount which you get back upon returning tool.

I did not mean to disrespect the techs, but his response called me a know-it-all for only informing that the manual said other means were required for water pump removal and his answer DID NOT answer my question. Anyone knows the bolts / belts, must be removed from the water pump before it is removed. To get respect - one must give respect, he did not.
