2000 mercedes 320E wagon all wheel drive with 85,000 miles. The car starts properly when engine is cold then when driven a short distance under a mile, the engine will die when the car is at an idle, or if you shut the engine off it will not restart. The engine cranks over properly at these times and it sounds like the fuel pump is running. After the sits for a period of time it will restart. If the car is driven for a long sitance 20 or more miles upon initial start the engine has not died. I had one instance where the car did not turn over after tit had been shut off and it would not turn over but it had full voltage to all the other electrical components

Hi there jctuma and TY for the donation this is what keeps the site going.

Next time it refuses to start do below immediately don't wait to identify if its a fuel or spark related problem.

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor /distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, ECM, Ignitor camshaft and crankshaft sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it
