Transmission problem
1980 Mercedes Benz 240d 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The car will shift in the first gear fine, but the next gear it will not change to until you let up off the accelerator for a few seconds. You then feel it change. It does however shift better when the car is hot.

What you are describing is a vacuum leak to the vacuum shift module of the transmission, check under the hood make sure all vacuum lines are conducted, if you have to change the vacuum module it is located on the driver side of the transmission and it will be very difficult for you to do, you will have to take it to a transmission shop, also check to make sure that your vacuum pump did not malfunction.
