I recently bought a 1991 mercedes 190e. The man I got it from has taken very good care of it. The transmission is stuck in 2nd gear and wont come out. It was working fine before this and the fluid is cherry red. No signs of the transmission being burnt up at all. I replaced the filter kit and still not fixed.I also worked the valves in the valve body that I could get to. The car did this all of a sudden with no warnings what so ever.I was thinking maybe I need to pull the valve body off and clean it out. What I need to know is was there a problem with these transmissions or should I just rebuild/replace the transmission and be done with it.

I just experienced this problem of not coming out of 2nd gear. Going through a car wash triggered it which makes me think I have shorted out an electrical connection, etc. Any ideas?

Hey.I hear they had problems with that car's transmission doing just that. It does it all of a sudden and without warning.I sold mine and eliminated the problem all together. Something inside the valve body was all I could figure. I just didn't have time to repair mine as it was just a car I bought to resale anyways.
